Loucky Monastery in Znojmo
Loucky monastery in Znojmo is not quite a classic wedding venue. In the South Moravian region, where dominates weddings in vineyards or in the historic center of the city, the monastery offers alternative concept of the wedding day.
And ever since I first heard about it, I've been looking forward to the first opportunity to shoot in it.
But let's take a look back at the history so you know what Znojmo has to offer you in Loucky monastery.
History of Loucky Monastery
The monastery was founded as early as 1190 and has gone through many stages in its history. Despite the fact that it was one of the largest monasteries in the Czech Republic over the centuries, it was plundered and burned many times during wars and raids.
The monastery was officially abolished at the end of the 18th century, and the buildings have since been used as military barracks. The last soldiers left after roughly two hundred years in 1993, and the period of the barracks was the time of greatest decay and devastation for the monastery building.
Currently, the monastery is owned by the city of Znojmo and part of it is rented by the Znovín winery, thanks to which you have the chance to rent renovated premises there for celebrations, weddings, etc. And they served us well for our wedding day.
Wedding concept
The wedding planner WeWedd came up with the idea of creating a wedding editorial in this very place. I didn't expect such a choice of venue from experts in planning vineyard weddings, but word got around and we were already discussing the whole concept.
We wanted to combine the history and size of the monastery, while showing that the renovated premises can be used for large wedding parties.
We chose the ceremony in the middle of the old monastery corridors, which reflect the long history of the monastery. And I was especially looking forward to the wedding portraits of the newlyweds among those old, chipped walls.
As part of the whole concept, the entire WeWedd team decided to take the decoration in a different way. Opulent flowers will be omitted and we will go for minimalistic way. The result is definitely worth it.
A wedding table was then set up in the large renovated hall, and at the same time there was a lot of space left for a wedding party. I didn't ask, but I'd guess the place can easily hold 150+ guests.
Photography focused on emotions
I completely reject the opportunity to take photos in the much-loved city center, because I wanted to show that the monastery offers a lot of opportunities for intimate photos that highlight the emotions of all the people at the wedding. You don't have to have expensive decorations to make the photos special, especially when it comes to bride and groom portraits.
Tip: when you are being photographed, just try to enjoy the moment. Focus on your loved partner and act naturally. It's not you who needs to come up with complex poses. The photographer is there for you, to guide you through the whole photoshoot.
Behind the scenes
In addition to photos, we wanted to show the place and the entire process on video. Mainly thanks to Martin's Your Life Video team, a behind the scenes video of the entire day was created. You will learn much more about the entire concept, place and the whole day in the video. Just 8 minutes of your time, definitely worth to watch.
I just apologize in advance for running around in blue shorts. Unfortunately, I forgot my pants and shirt at home in the morning and it looks inappropriately in the video. It’s been bothering me the thole time.
Now I think I said it all. If you want to ask anything, just send me a message or call me. Thank you so much to all of you who have read this far. Any sharing or feedback would be appreciated.
And big thanks to the whole team for the whole project. It was a blast and I'm glad we met at other real weddings in the meantime. Definitely looking forward to the next one!
