A Rustic Wedding Near Prague: Penzion Na Kmíně

When someone mentions a "rustic wedding just outside Prague," most wedding vendors immediately think of Penzion Na Kmíně. This family-run estate in Obříství has become a true phenomenon in recent years. Finding a free date here less than a year in advance can be a real challenge.

As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen dozens of barns, but a wedding at Na Kmíně has a specific, unique atmosphere. In this article, you’ll find my perspective on this entire venue, a gallery of photos from Jíťa and Tom’s wedding, and a few tips that might come in handy for your own wedding in the Czech Republic – for example, how to solve accommodation for 100+ guests when the guesthouse only has 37 beds.

Why is Penzion Na Kmíně so popular?

The Na Kmíně complex, which won an award in the Amazing Places competition in the Wedding Venue category in 2024, is located just about 30 minutes by car from Prague. For guests coming from the capital, this is an ideal driving distance, which solves a lot of logistical problems.

However, the main charm lies in its variability. The owners have managed to renovate the historic buildings so sensitively that the venue is perfect for both lovers of the "boho" style and couples looking for an elegant rustic wedding in the Czech Republic.

Capacity and Spaces: From intimate weddings to big parties

The biggest advantage is the large barn, which is one of the largest wedding spaces in the Central Bohemian Region.

  • The Barn: It can hold an incredible 350 guests. Many clients worry that the space will feel empty for a wedding of 70 people. But take a look at the photos in the gallery below; from experience, I can say that thanks to the perfect choice of furniture and floral decorations, the space easily becomes cozy and visually smaller.

  • The Garden: The huge garden serves not only for ceremonies, but it is also the perfect place for an afternoon chill-out zone, a prosecco van, or a photo booth.

Ceremony at Na Kmíně: Garden or Church?

Most clients today choose a civil wedding ceremony in the garden under the trees. It’s a classic that never disappoints. However, for those of you who want a Catholic ceremony, Na Kmíně has a huge advantage: the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, which is just a few steps from the guesthouse.

If you long for the atmosphere of a church, this place is exactly for you. Although the church has seen its best years go by, it comfortably fits around 80 guests and, with a sensitive choice of decorations, it looks beautiful.

Accommodation at Na Kmíně and the surrounding area

Probably the most frequent question for large weddings. Directly at Na Kmíně, there are 14 apartments available with a total capacity for 37 people. The rooms vary in size, suitable for couples, families, and groups, and for special occasions, there are VIP rooms and a large wedding suite. For a large destination wedding, this is far from enough.

If you are locals from Prague, the commute usually isn't an issue. However, if you need to secure accommodation nearby for your international guests, here are a few tips. In Mělník, you will find Hotel Olympionik, Penzion U Zámku, or Hotel Jaro, all roughly within a 10 km driving distance.

Only 30 minutes from Prague

One of the reasons why Na Kmíně is so popular – especially if you are planning a wedding in Prague or nearby – is its accessibility:

  • 40 minutes from the city center (if you avoid rush hour).

  • Roughly one hour from Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG), making accessibility perfectly fine even for your guests flying in from abroad.

Gastronomy: Street Catering and Bistro

Na Kmíně does not have its own kitchen for large events, but it cooperates exclusively with proven partners, especially Street Catering. From my own experience, this is a great choice offering modern, visually interesting, and tasty gastronomy. Their beef cheeks or signature burgers are a safe bet. In addition, there is a bistro right on the premises, which can provide a sweet bar.

Jitka and Tom’s Wedding

Jitka and Tom’s wedding was exactly what you expect from Na Kmíně – relaxed, full of well-being, friends, and great food. It is true that it rained on us for a while, but you could say they were just drops of luck.

Before the wedding, Jíťa and I discussed the wedding ceremony in the church quite a bit. She wasn't sure if the church was big enough for a larger number of guests and if it would look good with her dream decorations. But as I mentioned – once the decoration is chosen tastefully, it looks great. See for yourself in the photos.

Then followed a classic banquet and a party until late into the night. When I was leaving after midnight, the DJ was just getting ready for the next set. If you are afraid that you would have to deal with noise restrictions here, there is no need. At least not if you keep the party inside the barn after 10 PM.

Live music throughout the day

And regarding the music itself – I would really like to highlight the musical accompaniment by Kristýna and Honza from the group Your Acoustic Wedding. The combination of guitar and violin added a lot of emotion to the whole ceremony, and both fit beautifully into the entire wedding concept. Týnka also took care of the music during the ceremony and part of the afternoon, and I think she won everyone over.

Then came the party. Anyone who knows the Sound Up Band will probably not be surprised by how the rest of the day went. There was partying everywhere. The mobility of the individual band members is really interesting and makes the party a different experience. I admit that it might not fit everyone, but if you like their concept, go for it.

TIP: For parents of small children, the guesthouse's "babysitting" service is very useful. They will watch your children for the duration of a short meeting or a long wedding; the guesthouse cooperates with a qualified pedagogue for preschool and extracurricular activities.

Conclusion

A wedding at Na Kmíně is simply synonymous with a rural atmosphere and a relaxed environment. Guests can walk around the garden, sit in the yard, sip wine in the barn, or enjoy prosecco under the trees.

Plus, if you have a beautiful sunny day like Jíťa and Tom and don't worry about a few drops of rain that might fall, you will be thrilled.
